On September 30st, 2024, Institute of Geological Sciences, Polish Academy of Sciences (IGS, PAS) and Nanjing Institute of Geology and Palaeontology, Chinese Academy of Sciences (NIGPAS) held an online bilateral forum. Research Professor WANG Jun, Director of NIGPAS, and Professor Stanislaw Mazur, Director of IGS, PAS, signed a Memorandum of Understanding on behalf of each units respectively.
During the forum, WANG Jun extended a warm welcome to the participants from both sides, and briefly introduced the participants of NIGPAS. He pointed out that since the signing of the MoU in 2016, the two sides have carried out a series of scientific research cooperation. In particular, in August of this year, Anna Wysocka and Zawisza Edyta, professors of IGS, PAS, also visited NIGPAS and delivered two pivotal academic lectures.
The two sides exchanged ideas in-depth about the potential cooperation areas during the discussion, explored more cooperation ways and forms, and reached a consensus on joint fieldwork, talent training, research project collaboration, and other areas.
The signing of this MoU represents a significant action taken by NIGPAS in response to the Belt and Road Initiative and promote the internationalization of scientific research. It provides a platform for jointly exchange and exploration of scientific issues between the two institutes, and also establish a solid foundation for future in-depth cooperation. Under the new cooperation framework, the two sides will strengthen exchanges and cooperation in paleontology and geology by sharing scientific research resources, jointly applying for projects, holding academic conferences and sending visiting scholars to each other.
