Representatives from the NIGPAS Visit Hokkaido University to Explore Collaboration Prospects

At the invitation of Kazuyoshi Endo, President of the Palaeontological Society of Asia and Professor at the University of Tokyo, and Toshihiro Yamada, Chair of the Executive Committee for the 2025 Annual Meeting of the Palaeontological Society of Japan, a delegation led by WANG Jun, Director of the Nanjing Institute of Geology and Palaeontology, Chinese Academy of Sciences (NIGPAS), visited Hokkaido University from June 26 to 30 to attend the 2025 Annual Meeting of the Palaeontological Society of Japan.

During the meeting, the election for the new leadership of the Palaeontological Society of Japan was completed. As President of the Palaeontological Society of China, WANG Jun exchanged views with the outgoing President of the Palaeontological Society of Japan, Akihisa Kitamura, and the incoming President, Takao Ubukata, offering constructive suggestions for future collaboration between the palaeontological societies of China and Japan.

At the conference, WANG Jun was also invited to deliver a keynote titled "The Permian 'Pompeii of Plants': A Coal-Forming Swamp Forest Preserved 300 Million Years Ago," presenting research findings on the Early Permian "Pompeii of Plants" in the Wuda Coal Field of Inner Mongolia, which has been included in the Global Geological Heritage List.

During the visit, representatives from the NIGPAS also attended the China-Japan-Asia Palaeontology Council Symposium held in Sapporo, Japan, on June 27.
