On October 31st, 2025, Nanjing Institute of Geology and Palaeontology, Chinese Academy of Sciences (NIGPAS) and Trofimuk Institute of Petroleum Geology and Geophysics, Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences (IPGG SB RAS) signed the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). Research Professor WANG Jun, director of NIGPAS, and Professor of IPGG SB RAS, Nikolay Sennikov, signed the MoU on behalf of their respective institutes.
WANG Jun and Nikolay Sennikov introduced the historical evolution and main research directions of their respective institutions, and engaged in discussions centered on existing collaborative projects and research areas.
WANG Jun noted that the NIGPAS has established collaborative foundations with several research institutes of the Russian Academy of Sciences. Since the signing of a MoU in 2019 between NIGPAS and the IPGG SB RAS, the two institutions have carried out various cooperative. In 2024, a research team led by ZHANG Haichun, a Research Professor of NIGPAS, jointly conducted a 22-day field expedition in Russia with relevant teams from IPGG SB RAS. Additionally, the two institutions have successfully collaborated on multiple international grant applications, achieving outstanding results in the fields of geology and palaeontology.
Both sides expressed their shared commitment to renewing the MoU with the aim of advancing collaborative research in geology, paleontology, and petroleum resources between China and Russia. They also agreed to enhance academic exchanges and resource sharing, strengthen the strategic contribution of fundamental research to the Belt and Road.
