Scientists from NIGPAS carried out fieldwork

During June 25th to July 2nd, 2024, at the invitation of Dinesh Pathak, Head of the Central Department of Geology at Tribhuvan University (TU), Nepal, Research Professor ZHANG Yuandong, along with five colleagues from NIGPAS and Dr. Kabi Raj Paudyal from TU, conducted an eight-day field expedition to the classic sections from Cambrian to Silurian in Kali Gandaki area and Phulchauki regions of Nepal. Following the fieldwork, a bilateral seminar was held on July 3rd at the Central Department of Geology, facilitating collaboration and discussions between the Chinese and Nepalese research teams.

In August 2024, Research Professor ZHANG Haichun, led a group of four members of the Mesozoic research team, and conducted a 22-day joint field scientific investigation with the relevant research team from Trofimuk Institute of Petroleum Geology and Geophysics, Siberian Branch of Russian Academy of Sciences, in the outer Baikal region of Russia, and collected a large number of fossils and rock samples. They also visited the model specimen of Kulindadromeus zabaikalicus from Jurassic in Chita area at the invitation of Sofia Sinitsa, a senior geologist and professor of the Institute of Natural Resources, Ecology and Frozen Soil (Chita). After the visit, Sinitsa also presented relevant research monographs to NIGPAS.
