Include CAS Vice President DING Zhongli and other 25 CAS members (academicians), more than 500 participants attended the meeting organized by the Center in Nanjing in middle January 2018.
The Center for Excellence in Life and Paleoenvironment, CAS is right on the way of construction, that was formally approved by the headquarter of Chinese Academy of Sciences in October 2017. It will be based on both the Institute of Vertebrate Paleontology and Paleoanthropology, CAS (IVPP) and the NIGPAS. The construction will have two years and four months to be finished, i.e. from September 2017 to December 2018.
Based on China’s domestic unique geological and palaeontological resources and those most advanced relevant technology, the Center will focus on the interdisciplinary frontiers of palaeontology, stratigraphy and palaeoenvironment, striving for understanding more deeply on the origin, radiation, extinction and recovery of the key taxa and faunas/floras, on high-resolution stratigraphic subdivision and correlation, and on the mechanism of the co-evolution between life and environment.
