Analysis on the classification of deciduous Fagaceae from China based on leaf architecture

Abstract:

This paper provides a concise description of modern leaf architecture of deciduous Fagus, Castanea and Quercus from China. Relevant leaf architectural terminology is summarized and revised herein. The classification of these taxa has been reviewed and that of the deciduous Quercus was slightly revised based on leaf architectural analysis. The leaves of Castanea and Quercus sect. Cerris subsect. Campylolepides can be differentiated by the tooth type and venation pattern.
